Control head wins product innovation award

November 2000 PLCs, DCSs & Controllers

In July this year, Bürkert was awarded Flow Control magazine's Product Innovation Awards 2000 for its TOP Control head for process control valve systems, Type 8630/8631. This low weight and compact TOP Control head system is located directly on top of the pneumatic valve actuator, permitting intelligent, autonomous, local control loops that integrate all of the following:

* Pneumatic pilot valves.

* Valve feedback.

* Valve position controller.

* PID process controller.

* Internal or external process setpoints.

* EASY LINK direct process sensor inputs.

* EASY NET network communications (ASI, DeviceNET, PROFIBUS, etc).

The award, selected by the magazine's readership, is given to the top products that have revolutionised the fluid control industry during the previous year.

Nominated by the publication's editorial staff and voted on by the readers, this award recognises Bürkert's system solutions above all others and affirms the company's innovative, technological leadership. The Type 8630/8631 TOP Control delivers distributed, intelligent process control for angle seat, globe, diaphragm, and quarter turn valves, building extraordinary capabilities to deliver complete fluid control solutions. Seven built-in flow characteristics and a user-defined flow curve provide optimum, customised valve performance to meet challenging application control needs. The setpoint adjustments (set at the valve or via standard external analog inputs and fieldbus), sensor inputs (4-20 mA, 0-10 V, frequency) and electrical interfaces (ASI, Multipin, Cable Gland, Profibus, DeviceNET) can reduce the total cost of ownership (installation and commissioning) by up to 80%.

Flow Control magazine is the premier technology resource in the USA for the fluid handling industry's critical disciplines of flow control, containment and measurement. The magazine provides solutions for system design, operational and maintenance challenges in all process and OEM applications. It covers products, processes, and services for efficient, reliable and cost-effective control and delivery of fluids in a variety of industries. Technical articles address system design, operations and maintenance.

Michael Brown Control Engineering Editor's Choice PLCs, DCSs & Controllers
Many process engineers do not appreciate the importance of flow loops in their unit controls. A senior process engineer once told me that flow loops need not be tuned well, as they generally have little effect on the more important and much slower loops like temperatures and pressures.
