Industrial Automation, scada and Process Control security conference

1 May 2006

The Industrial Automation, scada and Process Control security conference (Johannesburg: 23 and 24 August 2006) will be of interest to any organisation that relies on industrial automation for growth and indeed business survival. Industrial enterprises and utilities increasingly rely on their control systems (scada, DCSs, PLCs, RTUs, and IEDs) to improve their reliability and efficiency. These new systems are proving increasingly vulnerable to security breaches and attacks. Complex and dynamic security environments often require difficult decisions to be made.
Users need to be armed with practical and competent advice in order to make the correct decisions. Tactical not theoretical solutions are the key to success here. This will be a practical event, thus enabling delegates to gain real solutions for their security issues.
Papers
Topics to be covered will be security trends, good practice, case studies, forensics and the latest technology applied. IDC Technologies has been calling for papers that encompass:
* Access control.
* Anti virus and firewall rules and configuration.
* Anti-virus.
* Attacks and countermeasures.
* Authentication.
* Backup, storage and recovery.
* Data communications and network security.
* Digital identification and authentication.
* Encryption.
* Forensics.
* Incident response plans.
* Intruder detection systems.
* Mobile and wireless computing security.
* Mobile and wireless security.
* Perimeter protection.
* Research initiatives.
* Risk management.
* Security operations.
* Security policy.
* Security risks and auditing.
* Threat management.
* VPNs.
* Vulnerability assessments.
* Web services.
Interactive experience
The scada Conference 2006 will focus on delegates being active participants throughout the two days. Delegates will have the opportunity to participate in interactive discussions and interviews with the presenters. The aim of this interaction is to avoid the monologue, one-way presentation style formats that so often happen. All content before, during and after the conference will be available on an open Wiki to contribute to.
