With the Sinamics DC Master (DCM) the Siemens Drive Technologies Division has expanded its range of drives by a converter for DC applications, thus enabling the Sinamics functions and tools such as SIZER and STARTER to be used. The rated direct current of the devices ranges from 15 to 3000 A, and can be increased by connecting converters in parallel. The Sinamics DCM integrates open-loop control, closed-loop control and power unit in a single device and is therefore extremely compact and space-saving.
DC technology is commonly used in a large number of applications, especially for main drives. The good control characteristics for speed and torque, as well as the wide speed control range, and high rotational accuracy particularly for low speeds are good reasons for using DC drive systems. The Siemens portfolio of Sinamics drives now has a converter for DC applications which means that the functions and expansions of the Sinamics range can now also be used. The engineering and commissioning of the new Sinamics DC Master converter are performed with the standard Sinamics tools SIZER and STARTER. The advanced operator panel AOP30 and the numerical basic operator panel BOP20 are used for commissioning and operation. The Profibus and Profinet interfaces and analog and digital interfaces enable the Sinamics DC Master to be integrated in existing and new automation solutions without significant overhead.
DC Master is designed as a scalable drive system and is thus suitable for both basic and demanding applications such as rolling mills, wire-drawing machines or extruders, and for drives in cable railways and lifts.
