30% of Siemens Limited now under black ownership

While some multinationals in South Africa have raised questions around the issue of BEE and the implementation of affirmative shareholding structures, Siemens Southern Africa has announced that Linacre Investments, a 100% subsidiary of Sekunjalo Investment Holdings, and Business Venture Investments No. 626, a 100% subsidiary of New Africa Millennium Telecommunications (Africom), have each acquired an additional 2% shares in Siemens Limited.
Funded by Rand Merchant Bank, this transaction means that BEE shareholders Sekunjalo and Africom each now own 15% shares in Siemens Limited whilst Siemens Germany now owns 70% shares. This has therefore increased BEE ownership of Siemens Limited to 30%.
Sigi Proebstl, chief executive of Siemens Southern Africa, says this development reinforces the company's commitment to the transformation process currently underway in South Africa and recognises the significant contribution made by the two partners in growing the regional Siemens company.
