SAPICS becomes The Association for Operations Management of southern Africa
August 2006
News
The Board of Directors of SAPICS (the Professional Society for Supply Chain Management), has announced that the name of the organisation will be changed, with immediate effect, to The Association for Operations Management of southern Africa.
Current SAPICS president, Tracy Cheetham, says that this move is aimed at more clearly conveying the association's role and the industries it serves, and to more clearly communicate SAPICS's association with its American affiliate APICS (The Association for Operations Management in the United States). She stresses that the term 'operations management' includes the disciplines of logistics, warehousing and transportation, and notes that the professional aspiration of SAPICS members will remain the integrated management of the supply chain.

Its affiliation to APICS enables members to participate in international conferences and exhibitions, and keep abreast of cutting edge, world-class technologies and trends.
