Three in one low voltage motor protection relay

March 2013 Electrical Power & Protection

NewElec’s KD and KE low voltage three-phase motor protection relays are designed for conveyor, compressor, crusher, fan and pump motor protection. The KD relay facilitates certain control panel mounted settings, while the paramatisation of the KE is fully software driven.

The relays are easy to set up via a man-to-machine interface or via a computer with free setup software. A comprehensive range of protection features are offered, including thermal overload, earth insulation lockout, earth leakage and short-circuit protection.

The integrated current transformer allows direct measurements from 0,1 to 50 A and external CTs can be used to extend the current range to the customer’s requirements. Real and apparent power measurement provides real-time power utilisation monitoring, as well as power consumption monitoring over extended periods. All features and information can be accessed through an external Profibus communication unit.

To aid with motor management, the relays provide programmable starts per hour and permissible consecutive starts; 2000 up-loadable time and date stamped events; 60 last faults with complete details relating to current and voltage values; and software based real-time recording capabilities. A full-fledged simulator allows trainee electricians to experience and manipulate relay settings and create faults. Accessories include a door-mounted KD-FLED unit for indication, a remote programming unit (RDU-420) and a portable HMI unit with infrared link.
